INFORMATIONAL TEXT
These are texts that give you, the reader, information.
There are three types of INFORMATIONAL TEXTS that we will study in class.
1. Procedural Texts
What we will read in class:
a. Give CD Burning a Spin: How to Burn a CD
b. How to complete an Origami Blossom
c. How to complete an origami crane
2. Persuasive Texts
What we will read in class:
a. Dodgeball articles: pro vs. against
b. Letter from a school principal persuading parents to not allow their kids to have facebook
c. Persuasive Article that proposes doing away with Daylight Savings Time
3. Expository Texts
What we will read in class:
a. Varous articles about the Underground Railroad
b. A biography about Harriet Tubman (Literary Nonfiction)
c. An article about how the brain learns while we are sleeping
d. Google Origami Article

Procedural Texts
Procedural Text: a type of INFORMATIONAL TEXT that gives the reader step-by-step instructions on HOW TO do a particular activity or operate something.
EXAMPLES: Manuals, instructions, recipes…
Procedure: The process by which you do something
Materials/Ingredients: these are the items you need in order to accomplish a task.
Remember your project. You were supposed to teach me how to do something in 5-10 steps. This project was a procedural text!
